The Empty Nest
The Empty Nest - A Midlife Rite of Passage 🪹
Today, our daughter moved into her first home away from home. 160 miles away to be precise, marking the start of her independent life. 🏠
Unlike the student accommodation she’d lived in for 3 years at university, settling her into her new flat today felt like the end of an era, one where she is flexing her independence and demonstrating how much she’s grown.
However, I recognise it’s also the beginning of a new chapter for our family—and for me as a parent.
As a transformational coach specialising in midlife and menopause, I often hear about the challenges of empty nest syndrome. But I see it as a profound midlife rite of passage—a time for reflection, growth, and self-discovery.
The empty nest isn’t a loss; it’s an opportunity to explore our own independence, passions, and dreams—just as our children are exploring theirs. It’s a time to celebrate emotional closeness and the unbreakable bonds that stretch across any distance.
This new chapter is a chance for us to step into our power, support our children on their journeys, and honour our own.
